One brought back this bottle opener from the Coke Factory in Atlanta – something I’ve really wanted for quite awhile.

Thanks to travel we missed our weekly sushi last Wednesday and due to scheduling impairments bumped it another night to Thursday this week. Happily we were joined my my friend Dante and his new girlfriend Jeanine (OMG that is SO misspelled). We had to order more sushi to make up for the people but I’m sad to say it wasn’t up to par. Either the quantity or the difference in nights made this a questionable night of fish. Boo.

Yeah, that’s a picture of my TV. Don’t care – I’m always excited and touched when the Stanley Cup is awarded.

This also marks the end of my season of sports as I think about it. I mean, what’s even going on over the summer but golf (snooze), bicycling (long snooze), baseball (beer then snooze) and the tail end of the NBA (can sleep over the loud, arrogant cursing). This year is looking up a little bit since the World Cup is going on and I get to mock my soccer-obsessed office-mate Nick, but otherwise it’s a dull three months waiting for the start of football season and, shortly thereafter, hockey. Ah well, at least I’ll get lots of naps in.

I mentioned a few months ago that my friends and co-workers Nick and John won the office Awards for Excellence. Today was the big event where they were honored and competed at the university level for one of 5 awards. Neither of them won (total fiasco in my opinion) but it was nice to see them recognized and to see the outcome of the group pictures we got taken a few months ago. These are of John, Nick and a bunch of my other coworkers/friends both in front of and on top of our building.

And for the record I know how rare it is to be able to call a friend a co-worker and to call co-worker a friend. I am privileged to be able to do both.

Headed over to Centennial Campus this afternoon for a meeting and stopped by to get an ID card made in the Textile Building. As it happens I am a Textile grad. I actually worked in the College of Textiles for several unhappy months and learned some valuable lessons in the process: 1. finish your degree and 2. life is too short to be miserable at your job. I did complete my degree in Textile and Apparel Business Mgmt. and I quit my job there and came to my current job. To this day the smell of that building evokes a lot of emotion and memories of stress, tension and, ultimately success.

And that’s my cat. I just thought she looked cute.

Headed out for a very tasty brunch with Mandy and then did a mini-Charleston tour before I had to make the 4.5 hour drive home. Mandy was a wonderful host and it was really great to see her and catch up – lots to cover. I miss her so much but I can see she’s really liking Charleston, so that’s good.

I was also really happy to get home. Three weeks now I’ve been away over the weekend: first Boston, then Virginia for camping and now Charleston. I realized as I drove past downtown that the one thing I’ve had in common during all my recent trips is how happy I’ve been to come home to Raleigh.

So yeah. Apparently I can post to the internet while drunk quite easily. Excellent! In the sweltering heat and humidity of the light of a Charleston day that whole night looked, well, nauseating.

So Mandy and I hit, what else, a bar for a very late lunch and a game of Scrabble. After a movie we headed to North Charleston for the BareNaked Ladies game, which was AWESOME! We were only about three rows back so we got to see everything. I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t a litte weird without Steven Page, but they still work really hard to deliver a great show and deliver they did. Shots below include Ed and Jim dancing and one of the band performing “If I had a Million Dollars”.
